I really enjoyed making this one. I studied many works of the famous ‘cloud-painter’ John Constable (1776-1837), how he painted dark skies and made some details to attract the eye of the beholder. He made it look so easy but it is so hard to do it yourself! It took me weeks of looking, seeing, thinking and wondering how I was going to do this. In the end I just did it; started during a painting week in Normandy and finishing it at home. It is not an existing place, it stems from my imagination.
I don’t even know if there is a red church anywhere – there must be – but this one had to be red. And it stands firm in the threat of what’s coming. A hurricane? A flood? Perhaps both …
